Suspected Zika Virus Cases Returned Negative

The test results of suspected Zika virus cases have come back negative from the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), according to Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez.

The test results were also negative for dengue and chikungunya.

“While the results have yielded negative, with the regional outbreak in mind, we should not be complacent and medical personnel should remain on high alert to look for any imported cases,” said Dr. Williams-Rodriguez.

Waste Management System One Step Closer

Government is a step closer to resolving the issue of solid waste management in the Cayman Islands with the completion of three reports which are now available to the public.

These are the finalised National Solid Waste Management Strategy for the Cayman Islands (NSWMS), the National Solid Waste Management Strategy Consultation Report (which summarises consultation activities carried out when the draft NSWMS was released last year), and the finalised Landfill Site Environmental Review Report.

Four Suspected Cases of Zika under investigation

Acting Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Samuel Williams-Rodriguez, has notified the Ministry of Health that four (4) blood samples were sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad to test for the Zika virus on Wednesday, 22 June.

Report Recommends Residential Mental Health Facility

A newly released report recommends building a long-term residential mental health facility in the Cayman Islands as the best way forward to treat local patients.

This was the conclusion of an outline business case prepared for government by consultancy firm KPMG.

Currently there is no long-term residential mental health care facility, and patients are sent overseas for treatment in Jamaica or the United States.

The Government of the Cayman Islands invites qualified Tenderers for the collection, processing and marketing of recyclables from a new Cayman Islands Recycling Depots Programme. The successful Tenderer must provide all necessary facilities, equipment, labour, insurance, finances, and services required to maintain depots, collect, process, and market recyclables from the recycling depots programme and CIG will share in the revenues received by the successful contractor.

Vendors Sought For Heroes Day 2016

National Heroes Day 2016 organisers are seeking vendors from across the Islands to provide samples of Caymanian food items at the ceremony in Heroes Square, George Town, on Monday, 25 January 2016. Interested vendors have until Wednesday, 30 December 2015 to submit a proposal along with a completed menu form to the Protocol Office at email protocol@gov.ky, or by delivery to the Government Administration Building. Vendors can provide quotes on any menu item.

Public Consultation Begins on National Solid Waste Management Strategy

The public is being asked to provide feedback on the draft National Solid Waste Management Strategy (NSWMS) “the Strategy” for the Cayman Islands beginning October 26th.

The consultation period of 26 October to 30 November, 2015 allows the public to offer input and feedback on the future waste management options that will be considered in order to develop an integrated solid waste management system for the country.

Results Of Landfill Site Environmental Review Released

AMEC Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure UK Ltd., the consultancy team that was commissioned by the Cayman Islands Government (CIG) to prepare and assist in the delivery of a National Solid Waste Management Strategy (NSWMS), for the Cayman Islands, has completed a Landfill Site Environmental Review report on the Cayman Islands’ landfills.
